Little reminder for myself… I’m planning to add to my immediate queue:

Coachella in Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton (5mm?)

Courtney in my fingering weight Colourmart Yak/Mohair/Merino

Oh, and a test knit I have incoming on July 4th 🙂

I see spinning in my future…
junio 25, 2010

Ok, so I caved in and got myself a little spinning kit out of etsy for 12$. I think that’s a good deal for the following:

It includes a wooden drop spindle with top whorl, instructions, and some ounces of natural undyed wool. I have been checking some spinning tutorials, like this one, and it seems lots of fun! I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to do it, but I do really want to try it out. And since the yarn is undyed, I may try out some dyeing, too. I’m so excited!

Until this comes, I have my Adrift on the needles. I had a tough time yesterday when I found a couple of stitches I dropped like 15 rows before. I spent a loooooong time picking them up and working through the knitted fabric with a crochet hook. It was hard work, but worth it in the end. I can’t wait to finish the raglan increases, put the sleeves on extra yarn and work the body without bothering about increases.

Oh, and I’m having dreams about my soon-to-be-home Bugga! and the Pogona it will transform into. The Sanguine Gryphon just told me they shipped my order today 😀

Endless stockinette
junio 24, 2010

Which I love. To bits. What’s better than kajillion rows of stockinette and movies/series/World Cup? Well, kajillion rows of stockinette in the round. Oh well, you can’t have everything…

Being stockinette, my Adrift is flying on the needles.

The color is so rich and beautiful ❤

I also found a new pattern I’m currently obsessing over: Pogona by Stephen West. Look at those curls of fabric draping over the shoulders and falling down! I couldn’t avoid it and ordered the yarn that came to my mind as soon as I saw this design, which is The Sanguine Gryphon Bugga! in Orange Asssassin Bug color. I can’t wait to cast on.

As an extra note, I received the Habu merino and silk stainless for my future Kusha Kusha. I thought the Forest Green would be a tad lighter, but it’s almost black. I can’t stop staring at the Tea Green, though.

Roasted Oranges and Flying Squirrels

I finished my lovely soya top, and it matches my shoes! 😀

Summertime Pumpkin

Yarn: Sublime Yarns Soya Cotton DK in color Pumpkin
Needles: 3.5mm PONY needles for the ribbing, 4mm KnitPro Symfonie Wood Interchangeables
Pattern: Summertime Tunic by Katie Himmelberg
Mods: I didn’t knit the first stockinette portion, I started directly with the waist ribbing to make the shirt shorter
Comments: I need stockinette/garter projects for watching the tv, or I mess with lace and complex constructions. this cami was perfect for the first World Cup matches. it’s a very easy knit, but the result is cute and comfortable, and cool! the yarn was very nice to work with, soft and with a nice stitch definition, and with that little drape needed by this sort of garment. I will be knitting with soya again.

I used my brand new KnitPro Symfonie Wood Interchangeable needles for the first time with this project, and I love them to bits! they are less slippery than my metal PONYs, but the yarn doesn’t stick to them like chewing gum like with the plastic Denise needles. they are also gorgeous to look at while knitting, those colors just make you happy every time they pop out of your knitting

there’s still much World Cup to see, so I needed another mainly stockinette project. I chose Adrift by Carol Feller. I’ve been swatching today with the super yummy and super soft 100% lace cashmere I got from ColourMart’s last sale (15% off!). I have an über beautiful cone of cashmire in a rich orangey-tan color called “squirrel”.

it’s amazing to see how the knitted yarn, which looks like an ugly greasy thread, turns into a squishy soft and fluffy square of fabric once you follow ColourMart’s instructions on washing and rubbing. I can’t stop petting my swatch 😀

my knitting has a busy future. my mom has requested a Citron in a stone washed Zauberball, in fingering weight. she wants it quite big, so I’ve ordered two Zauberballs. I’ve also ordered some other tips for my Symfonie Wood needles, the ones that were in stock.

off to cast on for my Adrift!

Oh my! More than a month has passed since my last post here, and i’ve knitted so much! Let’s see if I can write about it all and then go on writing a few times a week. Lazy me!!

Violetas on my windowpane

Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Sock in color Violeta Africana
Needles: 4mm PONY needles
Pattern: test knit for Sarah Burghardt, yet to be published
Mods: none
Comments: love. L O V E. the pattern, the knitting process, the malabrigo. pure and simple love. Sarah’s pattern uses short rows to shape the peaks in the edge, and then the body of the shawl is knitted sideways. no seams, no picking up stitches. I had to frog the edge 4 times because I can’t count, so I ended up using a bazilllion stitch markers to separate everything. I also used stitch markers for the body, which allowed fast knitting while watching The Tudors and Miami Medical 🙂
this shawl is getting daily wear in a course I’m taking part in (air conditioning wonders in a 32ºC+ June climate), and I’m getting lots of compliments. the yarn is also a dream to knit with, it’s so buttery soft

Silk Berry

Yarn: Crystal Palace Yarns Panda Silk Solid in color Berry Smoothie. I used just 3/4 of the skein
Needles: Denise interchangeable needles 3.75mm
Pattern: Bandana by Kalinumba
Mods: none
Comments: this little shawlette was a fun knit, with the right amount of lace to keep your attention on, and the right lenght to be knit in a whim and not get bored. perfect size for throwing in the purse and wrapping around your neck in air conditioning-friendly places. the panda silk is oh so soft

Summery Hobo

Yarn: COTONE, a 100% dk cotton non-brand yarn distributed by El Corte Inglés.
Needles: 3mm and 3.5mm PONY needles
Pattern: Hobo by Martin Storey
Mods: I didn’t like the buckles in the straps, so I made them shorter and used D rings instead (I was getting tired of the cables too, lol)
Comments: this top is great and I had a lot of fun knitting it. the fitting is perfect, too. I have been wearing it tons, may need to make another!

Lime is for summer

Yarn: COTONE, a 100% dk cotton non-brand yarn distributed by El Corte Inglés.
Needles: Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles size 3.75mm
Pattern: test knit for Andrea Rangel. The pattern, Beach Shorts, has not yet been published
Mods: none. it’s a test knit, so it was knitted as said
Comments: I like this yarn a lot more than I thought. it’s soft and very comfortable, and easy to knit with

I should come back tomorrow and show what I’m currently working on, and my future plans 🙂
